Rimini, a modern tourist establishment living harmoniously with monuments from its eminent past, offers a combination of old and new. It is an ideal destination for those who would like to spend a relaxing day at the beach, enjoy a fun night at a disco, or visit ancient art treasures. Rimini was founded by the Romans in 268 BC and its location was strategically important for trade and travel. During the Middle Ages it was a free community, then under the rule of the Signoria dei Malatesta from the end of the 13th century, who transformed it into a place of art and culture. In 1843, the Stabilmento Privilegiato dei Bagni (a bathing establishment) was inaugurated, which, approximately 50 years later, was followed by the Kursal and the Grand Hotel. This is how today's Rimini developed. With the tourism boom of the 60's and 70's, Rimini was destined to transform itself into a high quality bathing metropolis and into a European vacation capital. The city is made up of 2 parts, both equally as lively: the historic center with its suburbs, and the marina, with 15 km of beach subdivided into 10 fractions (Torre Pedrera, Viserba, Viserbella, Rivabella, San Giuliano Mare, Marina Centro, Bellariva, Marebello, Rivazzurra and Miramare) each with its own unique characteristics and traditions.
