Pescara, with its 150,000 inhabitants, is the greater abruzzese city: dynamics, assets, rich, are one of the economic centers, trade them and tourist more important than all the Adriatic coast. Its beach, without continuity solution, extends for beyond twenty kilometers, while its entroterra, in the course of the years, has endured of the large changes: today city-manufacturer, comprising various common (between the others, Pescara, Montesilavano, Chieti, Francavilla, S. To Pescara nacque Gabriel D' Annunzio, one of the greatest poets who Italy has never had.
Mentioned like Piscaria in documents of XII the century, the city rose in part on the place of the ancient Aternum , center place to the foce of the river omonimo. Natural marine port of call (in the late republican age) of the Marrucini, the Peligni and the Saraceni, in imperial age divenne the more important port of the region. Aternum came but destroyed from longobardi (the 600 d.C.), and from then the tried ones to you in order to reconstruct it they were vain, and only the port maintained one sure importance.
