Montecatini Terme tourist information
The hot spring centre of Montecatini is set in Val di Nievole, in a lively and green area. The town lies the foot of a hill on which the medieval village of Montecatini Alto stands; Montecatini Alto is linked to the town by a cable railway.
The hot springs of Montecatini were famous since the 14th century but reached an interantional fame at the turn of last century. Apart from the efficiency and variety of the facilities offered, which are divided into several establishments, the resort also boasts an elegant and refined appearance: many buildings of Liberty architecture, large parks and tree-llined avenues which reminds the visitor of many other famous alpine resorts. The proximity to important Tuscan centres of art as well as the numerous and prestigious events, the congre and additional facilities as the golf course or the racetrack, make Montecatini one of the most famous resort in Tuscany and not just for its baths.
From Montecatini you can easily reach Monsummano Terme with its spectacular natural caves, Pescia with its renowned flower market, the 18th century Villa Garzoni surrounded by a marvellous garden in Italian style, and the monumental complex dedicated to Pinocchio. In the area near Montecatini we can discover many tourist itineraries leading to medieval castles and villages which dot the quiet green peacefulnes of Val di Nievole.
