The name Brixia, that is Brescia, supposedly stems from the Gallic root brik, meaning mountain or hill. The city of Brescia, the provincial capital and the second largest city in lombardy, is a prosperous centre with flourishing manufacturing, commercial and crafts industries. It is also home to important architectural treasures such as the castle that now houses the Museo delle Armi e del Risorgimento (Arms and Risorgimento Museum). Its Piazza del Foro is bordered bythe Capitolium, the Roman Theatre, the S.Salvatore basilica, The Broletto (city hall), and the Rotonda or old cathedral.
