Arzachena tourist information
Arzachena
Situated in the north-east of Sardinia, in the Gallura, region, near the La Maddalena island, Arzachena is accessible through the mainroad (S.S 125) and from the ports of Olbia and Palau. Its territory includes about 80 km of coastline and offers impressive views. At the end of the 50s a group of international investors bought about 3000 hectares of this land and in the 1962 the Costa Smeralda consortium has been established. Therefore today Arzachena is one of the most known and popular tourist destination, plenty of attractions, services, comforts and resorts.
The sea shows absolutely transparent and clean waters, with astonishing colours. You’ll find both white and fine sand beaches and intended cliffs reachable only from the sea. The underwater environment is also inviting: big groupers, dentexes, amberjacks, red gorgonians, sponges and cnidaria. Arzachena is not only sea, but also wonderful woodlands and Mediterranean bush with the typical myrtle and juniper aromas. The “stazzo” is a typical building of this region, old rural dwelling house with the roof made of reeds and juniper’s branches and trunks. Nowadays many of them have been restored and transformed into holiday farms.
Arzachena has also a very interesting history. In the south-western area called Capichera, you’ll find the monumental Tomba dei Giganti Coddu Vecchju, near the nuraghe “La Prisciona”. Another attraction are the Li Muri necropolis and the Tomba dei Giganti di Li Lolghi. To be mentioned also the Little Temple of Malchittu, dated back to the 1600 b.C, peculiar for being one of the only four samples of nuragical temple with a megaron shape ( rectangular and lengthened) found in Sardinia.
